Most orthodontic treatment is carried out using traditional fixed metal braces.
Fixed braces are made up of three components:
- Brackets which are cemented directly on to the surface of each tooth.
- Metal wires which move your teeth into their correct position.
- Ligatures / elastics which help to hold the wire in place.
Recent improvements with traditional fixed braces have resulted in smaller, stronger and more efficient brackets. As a result, they remain a reliable method for straightening teeth and they can be used to treat all types of orthodontic problems.
